God has revealed Himself to His people throughout history as a Shepherd — a leader who is tender and cares for the ones He leads. He led His people out of slavery in Egypt into freedom in the Promised Land (Psalm 77:20) and He sent Jesus to come find us in our darkness and lead us into His light. Jesus expressed to us God’s shepherding heart as He healed our diseases, confronted the evil that bound us, and walked ahead of us through the valley of the shadow of death, so we could walk into eternal life. God is not a leader who exploits, hurts or deceives us, but He serves, nurtures and teaches us. He is our Good Shepherd (John 10), and we can follow Him with confidence and trust.
